Day 21 - Wet, Wet, & scary Friday 20th July
Llangattock-Lingoed to Llanthony, about 10 miles. Walked up Hatterrall Hill along the ridge, part of Brecon Beacons. Started at 8.40am, finished at 13.40. Walked in the driving rain from the start! And of course, no visiability up Hatterrall Hill. The guide book advised not to be up the black mountains in bad weather- but I was up already there so it was too late to take hede. i just had to stay alert. used my ponchofor the first time as a wee shelter to view my map. and with relief saw a sign for llanthony- phew !the path on top was wide and fairly obvious and the path down was narrow and like a small river but again obvious route which was fortunate. Came down the valley into Llanthony. It was quite an adventure! The Half Moon Pub (which has accommodation) was closed due to unforeseen circumstances, and the other Hotel was booked up. Whilst there a couple Dave and Lisa from Birmingham offered to drive me to the YHA at Capel-Y-ffin, about 5 miles away. They are staying there and offered to drive me back tomorrow, which was lovely of them as I was cold and wet, even the road had newly formed fords. Checked in £11.95. hostel due to close this October- property already sold. Rained all evening. Good company. xx
